The suspension absorbs impacts before they reach you, which makes a real difference on a small-wheeled bike and on rough city streets.

Why it's longer than stock: the suspension compresses under your weight, so the post sits lower once you're riding. The extra length lets you set the seat higher to make up for that sag, which is also why it suits taller riders who've outgrown the stock post.
Using a Rear Basket? JackRabbit requires a minimum rider height of 5'4" to fit the Rear Basket with this seatpost, so there's enough clearance under the seat.
